Vasant (Spring) 2020 Poems - Ena Chelsea Yanga

Recoil

By Ena Chelsea Yanga

To grow upwards, still,
for branches to protrude from the pockets of your skull,
you have to aim for the universe
andsettle for a garden.

What undoes you
what does not serve you anymore,
should be pinned, fatally,
on a board
and examined,
layer-by-layer.

To not let self-doubt,
like a huge python winding round and round
pick from your fruits, and take the supplest one.
