Countryman

By Chikaemerem Obi

Uncountable his years are not,
But countless stages, his poor life has scaled through.
Stages wherein nature has unfolded in various dimensions;
Stages following which the stories defining his country,
Are stuck on his fingertips,
Having keenly settled,
In a land he knows as his.

Such a compatriot he is,
An observer with an uncommon interest.
The past, he doesn’t trash in a hurry,
And the nationalists long gone, he wouldn’t despise
In perspective, all he considers,
A room not to be given for discrepancies,
Love for his country, he always uphold.

Chikaemerem Obi from Nigeria has seen his work published in International Poetry Digest, Kalahari Review and Twist and Twain, and others.
