Shishir (Winter) 2021 Poems - Abdulmueed Balogun

Drama of Ignorance
By Abdulmueed Balogun

I wonder, if it's worthy of me,
To keep my tongue buried in
My mouth, seal my hands
In my pocket and shut the doors
Of my eyes, when I see something
Sordid clothed in silk dissolving into
The river of our upright norms,
Walking shoulders high on the
Pate of our chaste street,
Crippling and crippling the
Pillars of sanity and sanctity--
In homes, and in the city at large.
I wonder, if I at that moment,
Load the lorry of my ears with
wools, feigning dump, if I shut
the doors of my eyes, playing
blind, and after acting well my
part in the drama of ignorance,
I wonder, if I am still worthy
Of being called a man, a saint.
