Vasant 2023 Poems - Mary Bone

Growing Roots
By Mary Bone

Standing in the mulched
flower garden,
I grew roots and became a tree.
Birds built nests and raised their young.
The open sky helped me breathe.
My limbs stretched out
as my roots searched for sustenance

Valley of the Dead

In the valley of the dead,
vultures hover
waiting for morsels.
This wild westpicked
at dust covered bones
glaring in the sun.
