Shishir 2024 Poems - Meredith Brown
Nowhere, Texas
By Meredith Brown
Texas is the only place I have ever called home, so I am a cowgirl in all the ways that matter. Or maybe they would have called me a cowboy because I am a girl with a girlfriend. Either way, I will be riding a horse and shooting a shotgun. I own too much denim and secretly want a pair of boots I will never afford. I’ve tried and failed to learn the guitar and can’t spit farther than I can see. But I just finished the new season of Yellowstone: I’m ready. Primed for endless sunsets and to spend my days photographing my many horses. My wife and I will be cowboys — in all the ways that matter.
