The Greatest Game
By Jackson Mattox

The greatest game, played on the fields of green
Where dreams come true, or so they seem
The pitcher throws, the batter swings
A timeless battle that marks the start of spring

The leather hisses, cutting the air
The crowd is loud screaming throw ‘em a chair
Crack, the bat meets the ball with a knock
And he starts his trot, admiring as the ball hits home run O'clock

The crowd erupts with cheering sound
Cleats kick up dirt from the big league ground
As the rounds are made and finally step on home plate
This is the greatest game and there is no debate.

It is here where both wood and leather gleam
Where legends come to reign supreme
For baseball is more than a game
It is poetry without a name
