Shishir 2025 Poems - Mark Kessinger

My brush with bleeding hearts
By Mark Kessinger

in the sunshine state
mid heat fest
beneath the car port
I squeeze by past bleeding heats
in their white riot
of blood bright blooms
I weigh them in terms
of the unspoken clamor
to magnify their charm
and question myself:
does every moment
need its banner
deserve a symphony
like all the other things
that hand me thru the day?
My answer is simple beauty.
The sky allows me to reap
warmth and light.
From the mountain,
floods the spring,
from the hive
partake the honey
and from each flower
just the hint
of God’s breath
