Shishir 2025 Poems - Mohan Budumuru

Pond of Mercury
By Mohan Budumuru

Pond of mercury, sky of velvet,
A sigh of relief upon observing it – one must let.
Chilling evening, painted in violet,
As mesmerizing as beauty can get.

A train jogs by, letting out smoke,
What a scene to which I awoke!

Even in such beauty, a melancholy monster may rise,
Drawing forth the silent woes in our eyes.
The monster differs – for each, his own,
Yet a friendship with it must be honed.
For even the monster is ours alone.

As the sets on the glimmering pond,

We must have made with the monster a bond.
For the monster is ours, and ours alone!
